The Five Essential Swimming Guidelines in Denmark
1. Learn to swim – it equips you to save yourself and others from drowning. If you enter the water without swimming skills, choose shallow, calm areas.
2. Never swim alone – being with others means mutual supervision and quicker help if needed, enhancing safety.
3. Avoid risky games and don’t falsely call for help.
4. Know the beach – talk to locals or lifeguards about hidden hazards like strong currents, fast ferries, steep slopes, or piers. Abroad, be aware of reefs or dangerous wildlife. Always read beach information signs.
5. Watch over children closely – stay near them to see and hear one another and intervene quickly. Even skilled pool swimmers can struggle with sea currents and waves. Avoid distractions and maintain close supervision.

Important Safety Tips for Your SUP Experience
Always wear a leash connecting you to your board. Life jackets or personal flotation devices (PFD) are mandatory by law. Carry your phone in a waterproof case. Never paddle alone; tell someone your route and return time. Check weather and wind conditions before heading out and stay close to shore if you’re a beginner or have limited experience.
