The Cliff-to-Cliff Route

The Cliff-to-Cliff Route stretches 230 km, divided into seven stages, making it an ideal cycling holiday for families with children exploring South Zealand & Møn. The route connects two UNESCO World Heritage sites: Møns Klint and Stevns Klint, offering plenty of family-friendly activities. Along the way, you can hunt for fossils at Faxe Limestone Quarry, solve puzzles in Kalvehave Maze Park, and dive into local history at GeoCenter Møns Klint. This 230 km tour suits a week-long family cycling adventure.

Begin your journey in Vordingborg, where you can park your car or bring your bikes on the train from Copenhagen or Rødby. The trip concludes in Køge, with easy train connections or options to return to your car in Vordingborg. Explore the entire Klint to Klint Route here!

Stage 1: Vordingborg to Hårbølle, 45 km. This 45 km leg follows the Baltic Sea Route/National Route 8 toward Kalvehave and crosses Queen Alexandrine Bridge onto Møn, then continues via Route 58 into the scenic West Møn. Visit the Danish Castle Centre in Vordingborg to learn about Denmark's castles and the legacy of kings, or enjoy the interactive Ghost Hunt on the castle grounds. Stop at Kalvehave Labyrinth Park to challenge your navigation skills in a fun family setting.

Stage 2: Hårbølle to Møns Klint, 42 km. Depart from the quaint harbor village of Hårbølle and ride National Route 8 east to Møns Klint. Experience Møn’s charming communities, explore the burial mounds of Grønsalen and Målerhøjen, and wander through Fanefjord Forest. Pass numerous local galleries, farm shops, and food producers. Kids will love a refreshing break with ice cream from Møn Is. National Route 8 leads you to the dramatic Møns Klint cliffs, formed over 70 million years ago.

Stage 3: Møns Klint to Stege, 21 km. Dedicate a day to Møns Klint’s impressive cliffs, towering 128 meters. Descend the 497 steps to the beach for fossil hunting, where you might find 70-million-year-old belemnites, amber, and more. The GeoCenter Møns Klint offers educational experiences for visitors of all ages. Continue along the Baltic Sea Route/N8 to Stege, one of Denmark’s oldest market towns, bustling with summer activities and home to Thorsvang Collector’s Museum for a glimpse into the past.

Stage 4: Stege to Feddet, 36 km. Begin with a scenic ferry ride across Stege Bay on Færgen Møn, linking Stege to Kalvehave (available weekends during school summer holidays, saving 11 km). From Kalvehave, proceed north along Route 9. Revisit Kalvehave Labyrinth Park for puzzles or make your way to Præstø's charming market town, where you can shop, savor local cuisine or ice cream at the harbor, and enjoy the child-friendly Præstø Fjord beach. Summer visitors should not miss H.C. Andersen World, Denmark’s unique theatre park.

Stage 5: Feddet to Rødvig, 35 km. Cycle north on National Route 9 along the coast to Rødvig. Take a detour on Panorama Route 425 to Faxe Limestone Quarry and Geomuseum Faxe, where you can rent tools for fossil hunting among limestone deposits. Along the way, enjoy stops at Faxe Ladeplads beach, Strandskoven Siberia, and Vemmetofte Klosterpark to relax.

Stage 6: Rødvig to Køge, 40 km. The final stage follows the scenic Stevns Klint UNESCO World Heritage site, with stunning Baltic Sea views. Swim at Rødvig's harbor beach and visit Boesdal Limestone Quarry or the Stevnsfort Cold War Museum. Ideal lunch stops include Højerup Old Church on a 30-meter cliff or Stevns Fyr, offering expansive views all the way to Møns Klint.

Additional options: For those eager for more, cycle 50 km onward to Copenhagen, with train links back to Vordingborg or elsewhere in Denmark. Alternatively, take a detour to Gisselfeld Abbey and the Forest Tower at Camp Adventure (36 km), ending in Haslev or Næstved, where train or car options are available.
