'The Monk's Hill' - Munkebakken - is part of a 10 km ridge known as Mogenstrup Aas, which was formed by glacial deposits dating back to the end of the last Ice Age.
There is a local legend about the 'Fladsaa Troll,' who became enraged by the sound of the bells from St. Peter's Church. In his fury, he grabbed a sack of sand and set off towards Næstved with the intent to bury the town. (Un)fortunately, the sack had a hole, causing the sand to spill out and gradually form this distinctive ridge.
