Located at the end of Adelgade, the main street in Præstø, Præstø Church stands proudly overlooking the scenic Præstø Fjord. This historic church dates back to the 1300s, making it a remarkable destination for families exploring Møn island and South Zealand. The blend of rich history and captivating architecture makes it a truly special place to visit.

The church building is a fine example of late Gothic brick construction, featuring a long nave with a unique polygonal choir area. Its distinctive tower was added in the early 1400s, creating an iconic silhouette against the town’s skyline. Inside, visitors can admire beautiful furnishings such as the Renaissance oak baptismal font from 1621, and a pulpit in late Renaissance style dating back to 1631, likely crafted by the well-known Schrøder workshop in Næstved.

One of the church's highlights is the magnificent baroque altarpiece created by Abel Schrøder the Younger before 1657. It showcases symbolic scenes including the Last Supper, the Crucifixion, and the Resurrection, surrounded by striking figures representing faith, hope, and love. These artistic masterpieces offer a glimpse into Denmark’s rich cultural and religious heritage.

Families will appreciate the welcoming atmosphere as well as the opportunity to learn about Danish history in an engaging environment. The church is open daily during summer from 10 AM to 4 PM and on weekdays in winter, making it easy to plan a visit.
