Discover the captivating world of Faxe's limestone caves and the picturesque countryside that surrounds them, offering a perfect family-friendly adventure in South Zealand. The Faxe Limestone Quarry (Faxe Kalkbrud) is a must-visit site where ancient marine life has left behind a fascinating fossil record. It's renowned for being home to the world's oldest known deep-sea coral reef.

Visitors can enjoy guided fossil hunts that run frequently from Easter through October, including weekends, public holidays, and daily tours during July and August. It's ideal for children and adults alike to experience hands-on fossil hunting and uncover marine treasures from millions of years ago. To make your trip convenient, you can rent high-quality hammers and chisels onsite for just 50 DKK per set, complete with an identification booklet to help you recognize what you've found.

The quarry walk covers about 2 to 2.5 kilometers, so make sure to wear practical shoes and comfortable clothing. Protect yourself from the sun with sunglasses or a hat, and bring some water, as the quarry can get warm and bright. Note that motorized vehicles and pets are not allowed in the quarry for safety reasons, and the terrain may not be suitable for those with limited mobility.

After exploring the quarry, relax at the museum’s café area with refreshments, ice cream, and small snacks available. You’re welcome to bring your own food and enjoy it in the lovely outdoor terrace and green spaces adjacent to the museum.
